James Gunn Rocks... and other cool stuff. (and a list lol)

So today I found an awesome response by James Gunn in relation to the Oscars and their snubbing of the big box comic movies. I believe in everything that he said. Any medium (big or small) will have people putting just as much heart and emotion in it... as well as those using those mediums for personal gain. I have never felt the Oscars were a fair assessment of the talent used in film making or those associated with films. Why should the only films recognized be the most obtrusive, film festival, or dramatic genres?? How come there is such a divide in the industry...??

Found HERE
Well here's James Gunn's Response:

I didn't really find the Jack Black superhero jokes offensive, did you guys? It was, like, a joke. I'm not sure if you guys noticed, but the writing on the Oscars didn't seem to be all that well thought out.
As far as Dan Gilroy saying that attendees of the Independent Spirit Awards have survived against a "tsunami of superhero films" - well it seems a bit weird coming from a guy whose wife has acted in two Thor films - really, that seems like you've drowned horribly in that tsunami. But I know I just kind of make up stuff as I go along on these awards shows, so I'll give him the benefit of the doubt.
Whatever the case, the truth is, popular fare in any medium has always been snubbed by the self-appointed elite. I've already won more awards than I ever expected for Guardians. What bothers me slightly is that many people assume because you make big films that you put less love, care, and thought into them then people do who make independent films or who make what are considered more serious Hollywood films.
I've made B-movies, independent films, children's movies, horror films, and gigantic spectacles. I find there are plenty of people everywhere making movies for a buck or to feed their own vanity. And then there are people who do what they do because they love story-telling, they love cinema, and they want to add back to the world some of the same magic they've taken from the works of others. In all honesty, I do no find a strikingly different percentage of those with integrity and those without working within any of these fields of film.
If you think people who make superhero movies are dumb, come out and say we're dumb. But if you, as an independent filmmaker or a "serious" filmmaker, think you put more love into your characters than the Russo Brothers do Captain America, or Joss Whedon does the Hulk, or I do a talking raccoon, you are simply mistaken.

Found on his Facebook account.

*Slow Clap*

As any comic fan arguing over beloved characters can attest too, comics come from a love and passion just a fierce (if not scary at times) as any "Serious" filmaker's love of their art. Most recent Comic Directors have a love of the medium, character and genre.

But I digress... Here's something cool!

Found HERE
I haven't read a lot of Manga or watched a lot of Anime in comparison with others I know. But I do like most of the Studio Ghibli stuff and the fact that I could get this cute, and slightly understated sweater is just awesome. If I could get understated Comic-y Clothing and Fan stuff, that was work appropriate. I would probably wear it all the time. That's it! Someone needs to make stuff for the Office Geek... Professionally Geeky Clothing!

Oky so off to my list!

Day 26: Iggles you should meet!
There's only one answer appropriate... ALL of them! I have had such an amazing time recently getting to know a group of Iggles from different houses through Twitter and online. I have been making new connections and new friends. It's such an amazing feeling getting to know people who have similar interests to you.

If you don't know what an IGGLE is then you need to go HERE!!!!

Well that's all for tonight.
Keep on Geekin' On!

Some cool things (and a list... 3 days left)

So for our Wednesday Addams day, between working and taking brakes I managed to find some pretty cool geeky things online today.

First off here's our Ode to Wednesday!
Found Here
Like most Gothy, Punky or just alternative little girls (meaning any girl not in love with Pink and Frills) we all loved Wednesday Addams. Instead of embracing my inner Bitch (as some are want to say) I'm embracing my inner Wednesday. Now wouldn't it be cool to have an Addams Family Movie with the Characters at the age they are now?? I wonder if Christina Ricci would actually be willing to play her iconic role or if , as some actors express, she doesn't like the character. I would love to see how she feels about being such a cult classic.

On another note.

When I was a kid I never read Lord of the Rings. As a confession, I own the books (and the Movies) but I have never managed to read through the novels. I have no problem with dry or descriptive writing, and it may be because I watched the movies first, but I have never connected to the books the way some have. I have, however, always loved Dune. Do not watch the old Sting movie if you love the books. But if you are looking for a pretty good movie-ish adaptation I would totally suggest the Mini Series.
Found Here
The did Dune (where they combined Dune and the Messiah of Dune) and the Children of Dune (which is the next book of the same name) in mini series. Both are pretty close (for a mini series) and have enough of the original feel to it that I like them.

Well today I found this:
Found Here
All I can say is "The Mystery of life isn't a problem to solve, but a reality to experience." Well we've experienced Gummy Dune now!!!

Another thing today was this:
Found Here
With a note saying there will be a big announcement in 8 days... seriously?? I have to wait 8 days??? That's like TORTURE!! But I'll manage to take a deep breath and survive. Once announced I'm sure we'll talk about it here.

Now for a List:

Day 25: Least Favourite Words

1) You can't do that!
2) Intolerance
3) Rudeness.
4) Bro
5) Man (as hey man)
6) Wazzup
7) Cancelled

Well, on to another Geeky Night!
Keep on Geekin' on.

Excitement over a Poster... and a list.

Look at this poster:

From HERE

I like that you have the Heroes, no gratuitous but picture from Blackwidow and we can see Quicksilver and the Scarlet Witch in the back. Now I'm not 100% sure I care about the Ultron story line but I am interested to see how they do it and what they change from it. I'm not totally sad that Ant Man won't be in this one, but I kinda hope they add Wasp to the Ant Man series.

I'm also looking forward to more Science Brothers stuff from Bruce Banner and Tony Stark.

This weekend I'm actually thinking of going to see Jupiter Ascending.
from HERE
I know it has very mixed reviews, but I believe if you go into a movie with low expectations then all you can do is be pleasantly surprised or at least not disappointed. I'll let you know what I think on Monday.

But for now here's my Day 24 list. Only a few more days left.

Inspire:

1) Laurell K Hamilton (because her methods always inspire me)
2) Jessica Nigri (I hope to be able to make stuff as well as she does)
3) My Dad (because who's dad isn't inspiration)
4) Pinterest! Cause there is so much talent out there.

So until next time,
Keep on Geeking on.

Stationary and Lists

So, with the joys of getting some awesome geeky penpals and doing some fun Geeky swaps I've decided that I should try my hand at creating my own stationery. I haven't actually managed it yet but I am currently looking for any clipart or ideas to pull from to create these stationeries.

I thought the above one was cute. I found it online HERE and thought it was nice that it had lines as well as the little decals. I'm wondering if I want to print some at the standard sizes (which is smaller than the 8 1/2 x 11 paper size) or if I should just print them at letter size.

Once I get a few made (and maybe shipped) I'll post them on here for all to view.

But for now, it has been a busy weekend so today will be mostly lists:

Day 21: Guilty Pleasures

1) Chip and Dip... Philadelphia Onion Dip Only!
2) Candy! Fuzzy peached, cherry blasters, you name it.
3) Buying hardcover books... nothing is the same.
4) Dolls.... anything that's a little bit different.
5) Pop music even though I'm a little bit goth, little bit punk.

Day 22: Dream Space

1) A clean desk space
2) Organized crafts
3) A great drafting table that DOESN'T double as a desk.
4) Separate bedrooms for my girls

Day 23: Encouragement for House Quinn (age 18 to 22)

1) Fall in love
2) Don't fall so far you loose yourself
3) Have fun
4) Know that you look amazing! That you are AMAZING! No matter what.
5) Be confident, not bitchy.
6) Know your worth is greater than you think.
7) You have all the time in the world for kids and marriage, you don't need to rush.
8) Stop, Breath and Enjoy RIGHT NOW... no NOW.... and NOW.

Well Until next time!

Cosplay, and Aquaman, and a List.

Today I was reading this awesome Cosplay Article , I think everyone should read it and stop the hate. I doesn't matter what size, race, anything you are... cosplay who you like, how you like!

I got the above image from the article (here's the link a second time!). I think this needs to be made into shirts. I would totally buy one!!! This NEEDS to be a thing.

On another note, although I'm not a big DC fan I always see pretty much any comic related movie I can find (I'm sure I've missed some, but I've seen most). I have had my reservations of new Batman VS Superman movie coming out. Not that I think Ben Affleck can't play a good Batman, but I just can't picture it. I've never thought of him as Batman.... maybe another character, don't know what... but not Batman. I really don't mind the new Superman though, he's got the right look and feel to him; Maybe not a boyscoutish as the original but that's perfectly fine with me. Well today they released something interesting. I guess they are gearing Batman VS Superman as a lead up to the Justice League... well look at this!
Found HERE
Isn't he pretty. I love Jason Momoa and as Aquaman I think this just might work. Aquaman (for all his 80 version faults) could be a pretty cool character.

And now a list:

Day 20: Fears Conquered.

1) Spiders and Snakes: I used to not like anything crawly, but after owning a few snakes I'm not so bad anymore.
2) Having Kids.... cause kids are scary
3) Accepting my own likes as being good enough
4) Standing up for myself

Well I hope you all have a great weekend.

Movies and Cosplays and Lists Oh My!

So with all the hype of the horrors of 50 Shades of Grey I've been thinking a lot about movies. I am an avid superhero movie fan... Any super hero movie. I have watched and own my fair share (mainly marvel related) and even though I may complain profusely about a portrayal or destruction of a loved character (*cough* Halley Berry as Storm *cough*) I still will pay my money to watch it and then buy them so that I can watch them over and over again.

Found on Geek and Sundry
With Marvel and Spider-man being friends again. I'm very looking forward to the further Marvel Cinematic Universe and where it will be going. What I don't like, in any franchise, is this need to glorify destructive relationships. What I've been loving about Marvel lately is that they don't NEED to have the female characters in a relationship, or have any romantic yearnings and ties with any of their male counterparts. I am not one of the saying that I need equal number of female to male superhero characters, but I am liking so far what they are doing. It will be interesting as the franchise grows what characters they will pull from the comic-verse and how they will be portrayed in the cinematic universe. So until that time that they come to theaters I guess I just have to sit and wait patiently, a trait I have never said I was strong at.

I think part of my anticipation for further characters has to do with my wish to get involved further in Cosplay. I love Cosplay. My favourite holiday has always been Halloween because I can dress up, and Cosplay allows me to dress up more than once a year, for multiple days, in multiple costumes. I am currently working on some stuff for Fan Expo in Toronto this September. Slowly they will come together, and as normal I probably won't have as much as I'd like due to money and time constraints... but you have to start somewhere.

Here's something funny I saw on Geek Girls:
Found Here

This made me laugh... because it's true. I have never tried the torture of Coloured Contacts (I may in time) but most of the rest of it I have done for either Halloween or Con's. The Dying from Heat Stroke and Not Sitting Down have been regular occurrences.

Well here's my list for Day 19: Encouragement for House GlaDos:

I hope any of those from House GlaDos or anyone in the age ranges of 23 to 29 take some or all the advise those at House Organa have been giving... I think the gist is BE YOURSELF and Don't let anyone make you feel that that is not good enough!.

Until next time
Keep on Geekin' on.

A Pottermore Experience... Day 18 of List

So today on Iggle chat through Twitter we were talking about which house would you be if you were at Hogwarts.

Found HERE
So I looked around and couldn't find a good quiz to take to see what I should be. After asking around to a few geeky Potter fan friends on Twitter I decided to go with the Pottermore test. Now be aware, the Pottermore site isn't like most Quizzes, it is actually a large program that allows for character play, leveling up and gaining house points. To start you have to get your familiar (I'm always disappointed that they only allow Cats, Owls and Toads) I chose the colourful frog/toad being I'm not a big Cat fan. Then you do a little quiz to get your wand (Mine is made of Laurel and a Unicorn Hair... not too bad I guess), once all that is done then off to the Sorting Hat.

After answering a bunch of questions I got GRYFFINDOR. Now I'm not sure how I feel about that. It's fairly suitable but I feel that I have an inner rebellious streak that I don't WANT to be in the same house as the main characters. Part of me wants to be different... against the grain. When reviewing the other three houses I realize that I definitely don't suit Ravenclaw. I'm not that into Wit and Wisdom I guess LOL. Then I looked at Hufflepuff... and although I value Loyalty and Hard Work, I guess I'm a little lax on the fair play and definitely low on the patience, so I guess that doesn't work either. Finally I'm at Slytherin... now I don't really like their methods but the reasoning house values aren't so bad... Ambition, Cunning and Resourcefulness, are not bad traits. It's how the books decided that Slytherin used these traits that I don't really like. (I got my info for the breakdown from HERE)

So I got Gryffindor... which I think is kinda funny being I went to University at the University of Guelph, who's Mascot is the Guelph Gryphons, and who's colours are Red, Black and Gold. Maybe U of G is just a Gryffindor sister school in disguise.

Found HERE
So now everyone should go to Pottermore and see what they are and if they are in the same house as me :). Go... Go Now! Comment below with what you got!

Now to finish my List:

Day 18: Daily Rituals.

1) Wake-up with kids and watch some cartoons.
2) Get ready and go to work.
3) Work (and play on the internets on my spare time)
4) Pepsi for Lunch
5) Posting my blog mid day (new Ritual but I'm trying to keep up with it)
6) Watching Avengers Earth's Mightiest Heroes with my 4 year old.
7) Relaxing, maybe drawing, when my kids are in bed.

I hope everyone is great.
Until Next time: Keep on Geekin' On.
