A little bit about nerdy/geeky things that I find interesting. From Marvel to Penpals. IGGLES to Anime. Dolls to Collectibles. You name, I'll probably talk about it at some point.
Hellooooo... so I have done! I have an official site.

Come follow me on my new site! It has my most recent images and works and a new blog related to all that.

Sylvanfire Designs

You can also check out my Etsy Site: Sylvanfire Designs, as well.

I have loved blogger but it has hit a point where I am focusing on building a brand and I think having a domain and site geared specifically to it would be best.

I hope to see you all on my new site!!

Keep on, Geekin' on.
(Also Known as Starting Things is Hard!)

So I am currently working on a few costumes for myself for Fan Expo (above you can see my Sith/Jedi versions of Power Puff girls). I am playing with foam armour building, sewing (of course) and a few other techniques to get things going.

As usual my struggle has always been with balancing life, money and family commitments. Being I'm done school for the year and taking a year off with family commitments before I decide if I want to return the following year, I've decided to jump head first into trying to work for myself.

This is not an easy thing! With my husband asking me to work in the evening (after being home with one or two of my kids all day, figuring out day activities, keeping the house going and everything) I am feeling really stressed for getting this really going.

Test Sewing

So I am going Sew-Crazy LOL. I have a bunch of random materials in the house and I think I'm going to start making things. You can't see stuff unless you make things!

I am also opening up availability for 2 more commissions for items due for Fan Expo. If you need something built or make or designed (I do initial illustrations and technical drawings as well, if you just need the design and have someone else who wants to sew it). Please Email or send me a message on my Facebook or on my Etsy!!

Planning for Wasp

I will be adding new items to my Etsy over the next few weeks so please keep your eye's peeled!!!

Until next time!
I have to say I'm impressed with where my designs have come from. Not only is my sewing getting better I find my illustrations and design have gotten so much better in the 8 months of school.

So what do I do with myself now? I'm home for a year with my littlest monkey but trying to see where my learning can take me before I go back for second year. I am currently planning a bunch of cosplay's for Fan Expo in Toronto at the end of August. I really hope to get everything completed and ready by then... here are the cosplay's I'm hoping to do (they may adjust depending on time and money and if I can get the materials I really want.).

These are posted in order of days (Starting Thursday being I almost never want to dress up on Sunday).

A group of friends and I are hoping to do the power puff girls. We are still deciding if we want to do them true to the cartoon (well as true as a bunch of 30+ women can be lol) or if we want to make them an "alternate" version of them... decisions decisions.

I love the Silent Hill Nurses. I don't know if this will be Friday or Saturday but I'm thinking Friday being it's not nearly as intricate as the Wasp costume.... (also I won't be able to see well so I will probably move minimally with this on LOL)

My ultimate goal this year is WASP!!! I want to do the version found in the MCU at the end of the Ant Man Movie. I am sure that when they finally put out the WASP movie I'll need to remake the whole costume but that's fine. Ultimate goal is getting the wings to move. I don't know if this will happen but seriously it would be cool if it could.

So that's me and what I've been up to. I am also taking commissions for clothing, costuming and children's backpacks. Feel free to contact me through the contact section!

Until next time.
Keep on, Geekin' on!

Midterms are finally over.... yay! I'm proud to say I'm doing fairly well in my courses and have had very little sleep over the past few weeks. Of course my family was hit with a bug right when I was getting a ton of stuff done. So today, cause I haven't been around for a while, I thought I'd make a top 5 about surviving school. (image: Geezlouise)

I've been really liking Top 5's lately... so here we go!

1) Sleep Is NOT for the Weak!

I don't know how often I hear in the hallways, from friends or collegues that "sleep is for the weak"... and I so Cringe at this. You need sleep. Whether you are dealing with kids, school, work or just day to day life... get your sleep. If this means doing it in spurts (Yay Naps) or just resting for a while in a library or cafeteria with your head on the desk and turning off your brain, then do it. You can not function for a long time without it... you'll think you are functioning but when the downtime finally comes all that stress, anxiety and exhaustion will find you and you will be sick! So just go to bed!

2) You Don't Need 100% To Succeed in Life!

This is something I keep reminding students in my classes and people I meet. When you graduate no one cares about your grades! They really don't. The person with a 70% average has just as good a chance at making is a go in life as the person with a 95%, Do your best, get shit done, and pass at least enough to get to your next semester. You want to pass... and if your best is 95% that's amazing... but there's a really good chance that at least one of your classes will not be that high, so don't worry. Learn and retain what you learn, allow yourself to work at the pace you need to for your classes and then be happy with you accomplishments.

3) In Real Life you can use your Resources!

One of the things I always hated (and still hate) in school is that testing removes your resources and makes you memorize stuff. In real life, if you don't know the answer, you can always look it up. Now this is not saying that you shouldn't try and retain what you learn. This will give you a step up for learning new stuff, but it's okay if you forget things. Take the skill of researching that you will learn and really master it. No matter what you do or where you would you will be researching stuff, so figure out how you work best and go with it.

4) Learn from Group Work!

Most people (including myself) complain about group work. You are always worried that you won't be able to control the other members so you don't know if they will pull their weight. Well, you should realize that this happens! In the work force you will have to work with a group of people that you probably didn't hire so who knows if everyone will get along. The difference is that EVERYONE wants to make money so they are willing to put up with each other or learn to like each other's strengths so that they can complete the goals and get a paycheck. You don't need to be best buds with your group but you do need to learn how to work with other people!

5) Don't give up your Hobbies!

You need downtime. You need, even an hour, at least once a week, to stop and not think about school or work or family or anything that is demanding something from you. Take the time... go look at your favourite Funko's in the store. Dream about the things you will do when you are successful. Think about where you want to be when you graduate. Go to kickboxing to let out daily frustration and aggression. Sit on your couch with a bag of chips and dip and watch your favourite movie for the 100th time. Take a Shower! It doesn't matter what it is, but whatever you feel makes you YOU and makes you feel like a person again is good. We aren't going to school or work just to be molded into other people, You need to learn to keep yourself through this process and work with the two parts of you, because when you are done they will both be still part of you as one whole.

I hope this helps anyone out there trying to manage so much!

Until next time.
Keep on, Geekin' on.

OMG I've been so so busy with school that I haven't had a chance to breathe let alone write a regular post, but don't worry, I have not forgotten you!! I have a long list of things I would love to talk to you about (including Halloween and Dr. Strange) but I am really trying to focus on my studies so I can bring you cool and better stuff.

It's really strange not writing daily lately. It's been almost a year and a half where I have barely missed a day let alone a whole week, and I realized just how guilty it makes me feel. I'm not sure how many of you read my posts regularly, I'm also not sure what it is about my posts that you like. I would love some feedback if you have a few minutes (just a comment would be awesome) as to what you love to hear about and what you want more of.

Do you like hearing about Geeky News?
Do you like knowing all the New Trailers coming out?
Do you like when I link a ton of cool things?
Are you as obsessed as I am about Funko?
How do you feel about my posts of my own artwork and progress??

This week I'm going on a school trip to buy fabric for my own designed skirt (isn't that cool) and I'm still not sure which skirt design I want to make real. It's so strange learning all these industries and stuff... and I'm hoping you are willing to keep checking back with me.

So I may be a little MIA over the next little bit but I'm going to really try and kick my own but in gear to post a little more regularly again (because you are all awesome and I have a lot of fun writing this).

Please be patient with me and stick around!!!

Until next time.
Keep on, Geekin' on.

It's been a little bit since I've done a trailer Tuesday and I think we are overdue. There are so many cool things coming out in the next bit I can't include them all or you wouldn't get any work done today (and I would really not get anything done). (image: Sony)

I'm sure you've heard already but if you haven't there's a new Pirates of the Caribbean coming out May 26, 2017 and yesterday they released the first trailer!

I don't know about you but I'm always excited for a new Pirates Movie. I love them all (even the bad ones) because they trend that fine line between a B-Rated movie and a great action adventure. You can't help but love the humor and rhythm of all the Pirate movies and seriously the casting they get for them is awesome.

In my travels of watching trailers I came across one for Max Steel. Seriously I didn't even know they were making this a movie...

You can't help but love a funny alien and his boy kind of movies. This looks surprisingly good and seems to be geared to a large age variety (which is something I find the Marvel: Avengers movies hasn't been doing lately). Don't get me wrong, I'm all for adult comic movies (AKA Deadpool) but it's also nice to be able to have my kids watch a NONE Cartoon movie that's appropriate for the whole family.

When I went to the movies this weekend I saw the new trailer for Passengers. This movie has 2 of my favourite recent actors (Chris Pratt and Jennifer Lawrence) stuck in space...

I really hope it's not some overly melodramatic movie like Intersteller (I'm sorry, but not sorry, I did not really enjoy it). Instead it looks to have a good mix of humour that we would expect from Chris Pratt with some action and seriousness thrown in for good measure. Seriously this boy has been busy lately!

Of course there are a whole bunch of other trailers out there but these are the ones I've watched recently and thought they looked interesting.

Are there any that you are looking forward too?

Until next time.
Keep on, Geekin' on.
This past weekend I was lucky enough to have a babysitter (thank you Grandma) so that I could actually go to the movies. For the first time since Suicide Squad I have to say I really loved the movie. (image; MGM)

Okay, here's your warning... I will (as always) attempt to make this spoiler free, but sometimes things that are minor and you don't think are a big deal give it away. So if you are sensitive or easy at predicting things feel free not to read this until you've seen the movie. Otherwise continue on!

It has been ages since I've watched a Western. There was a time when I was little that every Sunday we would watch Westerns or B-Rated Martial Arts Movies (usually they were poorly dubbed or had subtitles). This was one of those things that you loved and hated at the same time. Of course being a teenager or younger I wasn't always that interested in either (usually I was more interested in the Martial Arts movies than the Westerns) but it doesn't mean I didn't watch them. I actually really liked them, and I also likes that is was a good excuse to hang out with my Dad and eat junk food.

This movie totally brought all those feelings of nostalgia back for me. There will always be the neigh-sayers but I have to say, don't worry about them. As usual I stick to the idea of going into a movie expecting it to be lame or bad, but entertaining, and therefore being pleasantly surprised when it's better than that.

The cast was awesome! I'm not going to get too much into the characters but there were a few members of the cast that I was so happy to see. For one, I love Chris Pratt. He plays slight comedic relief really well. In this movie I felt he resembled Harris Ford more than I've found in any of his other movies.

My favourite character is not who you may think it is though. No it's not Chris Pratt nor Denzel Washington... it has to be Byung-hun Lee. His character totally gives me the happy's on the Martial Arts front as well as the Western front.

I also was so happy that this movie had people playing characters from the culture that they actually are! Yes, Indigenous man playing indigenous people... no painted face... no people who are pretending to be something they aren't even close to being. This made me so so happy.

So all in all (without getting into the whole thing) I really really enjoyed this movie.

If you've watched it I'd love to hear what you think!

Until next time.
Keep on, Geekin' on.
Hey everybody!! I've been missing you... it's been so crazy with school and everything that I haven't had the time to look at the computer let alone post anything. *pout* (image: Behance by Julian Duba)

Today (one of my days off) I spent finding my house (because seriously it was insane... the mountain of laundry almost ate my dog) and trying to get a new (to me) laptop set up. So with a new laptop you need new themes for your Chrome (or at least I do) and a new wallpaper! This is always my hardest part for setting up a computer.

Why is this so hard??

I think it's that whole self expression and who you are thing. I want a theme or a background that is something I love so every-time I log on I'm like "that's awesome". I also want something that isn't too obscure (because it's hard to find nice wallpapers and the more obscure the harder they are to find), yet isn't necessarily in your face. I'm not big on Movie posters, mostly because they have the big writing on them....

Here's what I went with...

For my Chrome Theme I picked a simple BB8

Chrome Download

For my background it totally took me forever (to the point that I lost track of time and totally was late getting my kid off the bus, thank the gods for awesome neighbors!). I thought of X-Men but I couldn't find one I loved, then I thought of something more generally Marvel related and still nothing jumped out at me. Then I thought I should do something more Anime related but I totally love the style and anime but don't have a lot that I watch. So I was stumped.... till I decided on this...

Yes, that's Harlock the Space Pirate. I am still bound and determined to do this as a cosplay! As my sewing skills get better with school it seems a greater possibility! So exciting.

So what are your backgrounds and themes? I would love if you shared or linked them in the comments!

Until next time.

Lately on Thursday's I've been doing Funko collections but I thought I'd change things up today. I love toys (as most of you know) but I have to admit there are some lines that are just so amazing they can no longer be called toys... usually called "collectibles" or "figurines". So here's some fancy toys! (I'm on a puppy image kick this week)

Let's start with a BANG! You have to love Square Enix's slightly twisted Batman/Joker mix.

Square Enix

There's something wrong and oh so write about this mashup. I love the little details and he even comes with another face and a variety of accessories. If you were hoping to get this for Christmas, however, you will be disappointed. Not scheduled for drop until March 2017, this lovely evil character will cost you $199.99 US.

We all know you have a geek crush on Doctor Strange... or at least on Benedict Cumberbatch (I hope I spelled that right). Well, now you can own your own Dr. Benedict!

Hot Toys

This Hot Toys collectible (fancy toy) can be pre-ordered on Sideshow Toys for the low everyday price of $234.99 US. It's a regular steal! (the sarcasm is thick with me today) I admit I am highly impressed with just how well done he is. There are so many toys that look nothing like the celebrity but this is so not that one. Again you can't get this till 2017 (so next years Christmas present).

So what do you think??
Would you spend $200+ on a collectible toy?

Until next time.
Keep on, Geekin' on.

Okay, so it's Wednesday and I've been sick and crazy with school all week. But I thought we should look at a lot of AWESOME.... why? Because if you are anything like me and already getting stressed then you totally need an Awesome Break!

So to start off our day of Awesome here's a Heavy Metal Version of "Everything is Awesome" and it's AWESOME!!!!!

If that wasn't awesome enough Bioworld has revealed their amazingly awesome (yes you are going to get totally sick of the word awesome by the end of this post... awesome) 'Rogue One' Star Wars bags and accessories. There are a few bags, purses and even a cool (I'm switching it up) hat that I don't doubt will be really popular. My favourite is the mini rebel backpack.

Movie and TV Store

Come on... who doesn't think this is awesome!

Next for something totally insane I found on Fashionably Geek (cause I love those gals) "Underground T-REX Fight Club!!!"

Okay so it's not that underground being it was an event at Burning Man (seriously there are a ton of people there) but it's totally hillarious!!! I would go to T-Rex fight club. But the first rule of T-Rex Fight Club? I have no clue!! What do you think the first rule would be??

On another note here is an amazing movie poster by Hero Complex that I totally need on my wall!
Oh Ramona Flowers... how I need you for my wall! I love this in SO MANY WAYS!! I think I may need to let my hair grow in now that I can dye it and become a living embodiment of Ramona Flowers. Sigh! (you can find a bunch of other cool ones on their site)

So what have you found that's AWESOME this week??
37 weeks!!! Who would have guessed it! I'm so happy we've been getting through almost a whole year. (When I'm all done I'll take a pic of my card wall!!)

I don't know if anyone else is doing these but I'd love to see some of your latest creations. Please share or link in the comments!

This week is something calm. I've been so busy trying to figure out my schedule and how the house will work for all of us, that I haven't really had time to breathe. So here's my ode to breath!

What do you think??

It's a combination of a print I found on an enveloppe, some stickers, and a cardboard butterfly I found. I hope you like it.

It's been a busy busy busy week and I thought everyone could use a break to OOgle some of the awesome POP! Funko that's set to be released.

Of course I know that a lot of you are Disney fans and what better way to start this week's POP! Thursday than with some Disney Princesses.

Revamped and Redesigned to show off their beautiful gown (Funko's words, not mine), I think these fancier versions are adorable. There are quite a few joining the crew with the options to get Ariel, Cinderella, Belle, Rapunzel and Tiana. The image shown is a Hot Topic exclusive Ariel that is all sparkly!!

For all you Hockey Fans (I know a few geeky hockey fans... but then again I am Canadian!) there is a new lineup of POP! Hockey coming in November! Just in time for you to get your POP! Hockey kick for Christmas. They have 16 variations... so quite a few to get you going!

For the upcoming game DisHonored 2 you will be able to get your POP! Games figures as of October. The figure of Emily with the mask is one of my favourites. I may actually have to check out the game just for her!

Coming in December (we seriously miss Halloween) is this wonderful Elvira figure. I think she may have to added to the top 5 figures I really need! She's adorable and I totally can't wait for her to be available.

There are quite a few from this list (and the larger groups that I didn't add) that I think I will need to put on my christmas list to Santa!

Which ones are your favourites??

Until next time.
( Top 5 Things I Realized As An Adult Student)

I almost feel like I need a Pete the Cat with his cool blue magic sunglasses on this post... it's just been that kind of week. (image: HaperCollins)

As I had mentioned earlier I will probably posting a little more sporadically online over then next little while. I would really like to have the time to do it all but this blog and my sanity are priorities that I don't want to skimp on. So I'm not posting total rubbish I will be posting an average of 3 times a week, and until I get settled in my schedule I am not guaranteeing which days that will be.

Week one was great... I have homework (that I'm stressing about) because I can't get one of the books till next week, but other than that I've really enjoyed all my classes so far. I have realized it's really different going back to school in my 30's.

Now it's kind of funny. Most of the kids in my class don't seem to realize that I'm almost *cough* 35 *cough*... but seriously I don't care. I have never been shy about my age. I guess I'm just a cool and hip 35 year old... hahahahahaha *SNARF*. Whatever the reason I have managed to already meet some pretty cool people who are just as excited (and nervous) as I am. So I thought I'd do a top 5 (or something) things that I've realized as a returning student.

THINGS THAT YOU REALIZE AS A RETURNING STUDENT!!!!!!

1) Your self worth is not tied up in your marks.
Being you have lived a whole life without getting graded you now can settle into your classes easier because you know you are successful with or without school. You have already proven you can live, that you have friends and family, and that a number isn't going to get you a job.

2) Grades are only as important as what you want to do with them.
Sure, grades are important. You don't want to fail and have to repeat a class... you also don't need to kill yourself over the difference between an 85 and an 87. If you know your stuff then show it, if you don't then study. It sounds pretty easy, but after school (unless you are continuing with Masters, PhD's and Graduate Programs) no one cares about your grade number. All they want to know is that you have the little piece of paper.

3) Teachers are people.
If you are having an issue, TALK TO YOUR TEACHER. If you are loving your class, Tell your teacher. If there is something you don't understand, Ask your teacher. They are just people. They aren't there to try and fail you. They want you to succeed. They also want to go home to their family at the end of the night and not stress about rude or disruptive students. So be nice to your teacher, they are just people like you.

4) Do your work... read the book... go to class.
There's one this I've noticed with all the classes I've attended. All the teachers keep saying "Go To Class". I have to admit, when I was in University I was terrible for attending classes some days. I think it was the fact that I hadn't really found the thing that really interested me so I was mostly going through the motions. Now as an adult I WANT to learn the stuff they are teaching so I'm making an extra effort to read the stuff and get things done!

5) There is always someone better than you, don't stress about it... use it!
When I did University and afterwards I was fairly defeated. I came out of school with a giant debt, and no real hireable skills (at least I didn't think they were). I ended up in offices and working as assistants using skills I learnt in one single class mainly. Part of my issue what the feeling that there were so many amazing artists in my courses that I just wasn't good enough to make a living at it. I felt that my skills were lacking and my vision wasn't as important. Now that I'm a little older I know that even in the most saturated market there is room for you! You may not have all the skills someone else has but that's okay. It takes all kinds of people to make a business run and there's no reason you can't find like minded people (in the world, in your course, in the inter-verse) that can help you reach those goals and dreams. You aren't good at drawing but great at colour... then find someone who's the opposite of you to team up with... there's always a way around it. No business is run by a single person filling all the shoes.

So I hope this eases some people stresses. If not I wish you luck in all things school related!!

Until next time.
Keep on, Geekin' on.

This week has been a little hecktic but I finally managed to get today's playing card done!!

There's something I still love a lot about Collage work, it's been something I've been doing since university. No matter how often I try to get my own stuff onto these cards I really believe the combination makes them each unique.

Today I used a bunch of stuff I found at the Dollar Store (yay dollar store) and I find it's just too adorable. You can never go wrong with stickers.

So what do you think??

Now on something completely off topic did anyone see the amazing runway by PhiPhi last night?? OMG I could totally die!! This is what I've been waiting for while watching All-Stars 2 of Rupaul's drag race. It's like a high fashion Thanos... makes me so so so HAPPY!!!!

Until next time.

It's Wednesday already... who would have thunk it. It seems sometimes the weeks just fly by. So I thought we'd do a bunch of fun and cute stuff to get you through the day!

Now, you all know I'm a collector of things. Mainly dolls and funko lately but I just love figures in general. I'm really not specific being I have quite a few things from quite a few lines that grace my shelves. I also have a habit of switching things up (yes I keep the boxes so I can store them again... unless they come to a sad demise called a puppy or kids).

I just found a new (at least to me) line that I think I may need to follow almost as much as I follow Funko and that's saying a lot!

Nendoroid (a product line featured by the Good Smile Company) has to be one of the cutest competitors to Funko I've seen in a while. They carry Chibi like characters that are more expressive (also a higher price point) than Funko but are equally as cute! I think my budget is really going to hate me for discovering them.

Nendoroid/Good Smile Company

What's really cool is she's fully articulated and has three different faceplates so you can pose her in a large variety of styles. You can also get a Suicide Squad version of the Joker as well.
The Joker comes with three faceplates, is fully articulated and an optional razor and electroshock tool. Being I'm obviously out of touch for this whole company I decided to look into some of their other pieces and of course a favourite is Deadpool!
He's so cute I could die!!!

To add to the cuteness overload I thought I'd check out one of my favourite styles of dolls and that's Pullip. I love love love Pullip dolls. I currently have one and have been seriously considering making her a new outfit (she's in a Victoria Garb which doesn't suite my shelves as much anymore).

What's really cool is they had an exclusive San Diego Comic Con Pullip of Harley Quinn and one of Wonder Woman. You can actually buy these. Yes they are a lot more money than either Funko or Nendoroid but aren't they adorable!! What I love about Pullip is they are full balljoint dolls, so they can be fully posed on your shelves, they also often have adjustable eyes that move and blink (with buttons so you can take pics of them with their eye's half closed).

Pullip has a strong base in Anime (I know, a shocker there) and they put out a new doll each month! July's doll was actually Sailor Moon!
I think they are all so pretty and I love the detail work from the hair to the costumes. What's even cooler is the dolls actually look like this when you buy them... no false adverstizing here!!

Today is the first day of school following Summer Vacation for most of the kids (including mine) and ME!!! (image: quotesgram)
As the first day back to school I thought I'd start off with a little statement for the coming year!

You are all awesome!! There will be times when I may slack off a bit on writing here... even though I've been over a year strong with minimal absences (lol) I understand that school can take a lot out of someone. So in preparation for that (and to make sure I don't do slap posts) there may be times I post as little as 3 times a week. I know that's still better than some but I have found I've loved posting daily, it's just that time is a commodity and I'm really hoping over the next three years to bring this and my work to accumulate into some sort of business. So here's hoping!

So if you are ever missing me feel free to send me a message! I'm on Instagram / Twitter / Facebook fairly regularly! I respond to tweets and facebook messages within the day!! (usually sooner if I'm not in class or somewhere without internet)

I have to admit I'm a little nervous. I'm worried I didn't get everything I needed... I'm also nervous about the age difference from me to the other students! It will be great though!!

I'm very excited about learning all the new things and how to be a better designer and sewer and all that stuff!!!

So wish me luck and I'll keep you posted on how it's all going!!

Here is one of my favourite motivation songs!! Remember... YOU CAN DO IT! You Can Do ANYTHING if you work hard and have passion!!

I'd love to hear about what you are doing!

Until next time.

This week's card is something silly... because we all need a little silly in our lives!

I started with one idea in mind and as I was making the card it completely changed into something else.

What do you think? It's kind of a back to school follow your dreams themed card. I loved this little school dude I found. He was a sticky note that I received in a swap a year or two back.

For something that's kinda eclectic I really sort of love it.

What do you think?

Until next time.

It's been a long week! With the time to gear up for school happening we all need something cute and cuddly to hug after we spent way too much money on books that we will only use for one semester.

In all honesty I'm a little frustrated. I was going over my class list for next week and realized I didn't get one of the books I need for my first class. I guess they just didn't have any in stock or something... so I'm going to go to the class and see if we need it. If we do I'll buy it on Tuesday. But with that little frustration I almost decided not to write today... but I am.

Why am I writing... well I'm reading #Girlboss and I have to admit I'm taking the advice to heart. I will not succeed at making this a home career if I'm lazy and put off tomorrow what I'm quite capable to do today. Yay for learning to be a better adult than the student I was in University.

So I found this on Nerd Approved...

Isn't he adorable. I thought we all could use a hug or a cuddle with the stresses of school about to start... and what better thing to cuddle than this adorable Jayne Bear? For all you firefly fans I know this is totally needed (heck I need it!)... what's even cooler is this!
Yes from the same company you can get an adorable Kaylee Bear as well!!

If Firefly isn't your thing here's some more cute and cuddly for you Pokemon Fans.

This weekend is Fan Expo YAYAYAYAYAYAYA... and I am actually going on Sunday. Being I am going with my Best Friend we decided that a Group Cosplay was in order, so we chose Big Hero 6!!

Of course I get to be Gogo Tomago so I needed to get my cosplay in order (I have totally been procrastinating until this week) luckily I have most of the costume already. If you aren't sure what Gogo looks like here's a picture!

Disney

Okay so I owned purple tights, I also own a pair of black tights that have pre-cut holes down the leg to go over top. The white tanktop is a staple in my wardrobe and black bike shorts (my shorts don't currently have a red stripe but I think red electrical tape will work).

The issue I had was the jacket... here's a picture (don't mind the quality it was late and the lighting was horrible when I was sewing this)...

So you can see the jacket is long and a bit on the bulky side. I've had this jacket for years (long enough that the faux whatever it's supposed to be is almost starting to stick together and rip) and I haven't worn it in a while. I decided (because I like to get semi accurate at times) to adjust the jacket to suit my needs.

Here's a pic of me having the jacket pinned so I can adjust the lines, from the sleave length to the waist length to even the front lapel.

Here's me getting it all pinned so that it still looks half decent even though I'm doing a quick job. The main rules I think about on a quick cosplay is that it doesn't have to last forever and you don't want threads hanging.

It took me a bit of adjusting (and cursing at my sewing machine) because the materials and my machine weren't friends. Once I got it all together though I'm actually pretty happy with it. Here's a quick pic I took of the whole thing together for a test run before Sunday... (and yes I'm standing on my bathtub).

Not too bad all in all! Just need to do the makeup and add a little extra purple to my hair. I haven't decided on gloves (being I don't currently have any and I'm cheap).

Have you done any last minute Cosplay's?? I'd love to see pics if you want to share! (tag me in on Twitter if you post any @sylvanfire)

Until next time.

It's been a while since I've inundated you with a ton of Trailers for all the cool things coming out... and being we are hitting September in a few days I thought I'd start! Here's a start on the TV that I'm looking forward to over the next few months.

Okay so we all know September and October are the time of year for the new shows to start and old shows to resume. This is a time of PVR's and Obsessively watching television (I'm especially fond of my PVR). So here's what I think we need to keep our eyes peeled for.

Lucifer Season 2

You all know just how much I love Lucifer. This show totally sunk it's claws into me (and most of the people I know) and it's amazing! I am SO HAPPY that they have a Season 2 and that it's a full season instead of a short midseason start. The trailer for Season 2 looks to have all the things we could want from our favourite angel with a heart.

All I want to say is... Mommy's Home! and maybe go Eeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeee a little bit!

Marvel's Iron Fist

This is technically a TV show even though it's Netflix. Marvel has totally been hitting things out of the park the past few years with Daredevil, and Jessica Jones. I am very interested to see how they do Iron Fist. Here's a sneak peek.

Marvel's Luke Cage

Okay if you are talking Iron Fist and Daredevil you need to talk Luke Cage as well...

And from Luke Cage it will all accumulate into .... The Defenders!

Pure Genius

Okay, so this looks like a high tech version of House without the snarky attitude and drug addiction... which makes me totally want to watch it. What I know is that I will probably cry through most of the episodes, which will mean this will be PVR'd to be watched slowly.

No Tomorrow

Okay for all you mushy girl types (I know I can totally be one of those), this is the show for you. Just watching the trailer I was like... "OMG I need to watch this if nothing more than for the giggles (and maybe 'cause he's cute... don't tell my husband)"

So what are you looking forward too?? Are any of the above on your list... did I miss something that I don't know exists yet??

Until next time.
Keep on, Geekin' on

So I've been looking for a new show to watch on Netflix/Cable being we are between seasons still and I've now caught up on the shows I've been generally watching.

I finally finished watching the Legend of Korra and I totally loved it. I still say that Aang and the original gang have a major soft spot in my heart and I found that Korra was more adult in someways, but at the same time is was just as good in completely different ways.

Being we haven't gotten to the new season of Lucifer (I swear this is one of the reasons I keep cable) and Once Upon a Time... and even the house shows I watch regularly are in re-runs... I figured it was time to puruse the NetFlix and see what I could find. Here are some recommendations that were given to me and I have tried.

Brooklynn Nine-Nine

Adweek

Okay this one is hillarious. I thought I wouldn't like it but my husband convinced me to watch it and I'm now almost done the whole series (at least what's on Netflix). It's silly and funny but just on this side of stupid. I have never been one for straight out stupid humour (I can't handle Dumb and Dumber at all) but I love a good comedy. This one is great and I will probably add it to my re-watch list because I could watch a few of the episodes again no problem.

Stranger Things

Ali Kellner Fan Art

So, with a whole bunch of friend and online friend recommendations I have attempted to watch this show. I admit straight out I'm not good with Creepy or Scary... especially in the evening... and this one hits a great big creep factor for me! I am now about to start episode 3 and have put some rules into place... no watching it alone (my husband will be forced to watch it with me), no watching it in the dark (seriously... bad idea), and no watching it right before bed. Once those rules are all met I'll be fine to continue watching it. It may be my afternoon show that I watch during quiet time while I'm drawing or doing school work so that I can pay attention without really paying attention. I know that once I get past the creepy stuff I will enjoy it (like I do with Supernatural and Dr. Who) but it's to get me there. So for now I'll watch it in slow chunks... picking away at it.

White Collar

Fox

This show, at the moment, has now become my go-to show. It's awesome!! I'm almost done season one and I can't get enough of it. The main characters (Neil and Peter) are so well matched that you can't help but love them. I do have a soft spot for anything that's a mystery type show... and I also like cop shows where convicts help them (may be while I love "Catch Me If You Can" so much)... so this hits off so many likes for me it's ridiculous. I'm really surprised I didn't start watching it sooner, but we all are late to the game sometimes.

I would really like to know what you are watching?? Is the show family friendly or an after bedtime kind of show??

Until next time.
Keep on, Geekin' on.

Some weeks the things I find just fall together... sometimes it's drawing, sometimes I chalk, sometimes it's collage and other times it stickers.
I have to say I have been really likig putting this collection of cards togethers. They are all very different and I have to admit there are times that I love the simplest ones the best... but each has a feeling too them that's unique in their own way.

This week I used stickers... the past few weeks the cards have been simpler but I've realized simpler isn't always the worst way to go. When working on such a small surface (cause you need to remember these are regular playing cards, nothing fancy) when I photograph them the ones that are busier make me more upset... they seem messy and a bit jumbled. I also have to admit to myself that it's still art even if I use stickers and other found sources... there is nothing wrong with stickers.

I love this... it's simple yet colourful... it's also fun.

So what do you think?? Does art need to be defined or can anything creative be art??

Until next time.

Another edition of POP! Funko Thursday because we all need to feed our Funko Addictions!

Of course there has been a LOT of Funko news releases over the past few weeks, since our last post, but I have put together a collection of some of my favourite Coming Soon Funko figurines.

For you Once Upon A Time lovers, and I am totally one of those, there are a few new POP! Figures that you will just need to add to your to buy list! I have to say I love this version of Zelena!! They also have an awesome Regina and Hook (for all you Hook lovers out there!). I think I will be needing to start a whole new shelf just for my OUAT Funko.
We all know that you like to yell "FREEDOM" to your friends randomly, so why not throw a little WIlliam Wallace at them while you do it?? This Funko has William Wallace in full war paint regalia... and I think he's adorable!!
Cthulhu: Master of R'lyeh can come rule your puny human home with glowing effects! I think he's the cutest evil god-like creature you can find around. There is a whol collection of Horror Dorbz coming out that include Chucky and some adorably evil Gremlins. These will all be released in time for Halloween.
Now in true Horror fashion you can collect your own series of Sparkly Vampires (sigh) for all your Sparkly Vampire needs! This is one of those collections that I understand there is a lot of Fandom over but I almost want to get one and paint it with Glitter... then stage it with Buffy behind him or something equally silly.

So now you have a few more options while trying to choose for the ever growing list of awesome POP! Figures!!

Which ones do you like from these new collections?

Until next time.

Today was the day... I went to the college and spent a whole lot of money on text books and other things that were stated as NEEDED on my list. OMG, does that every make things real. (image: Quote Ideas)

So if you have been avoiding it here's the friendly reminded that school starts in 2 WEEKS... yes 2. Not 4, not 8, TWO!!!!

I have manged to get all my kids stuff together... they have new shoes, new backpacks, new outfits for the first day... (thanks to Grandma that it). They are all set. In all honesty they are SO set that I wish their school would start already because they are clearly ready to be there (or maybe it's me that's clearly ready for them to be there). Either way they are all bought for and geared up for their first day back.

With going to my new College it's really weird. I have been wanting to go back to school for a while but even at 34 I still feel like my first day of high school all over again. I have butterfly's in my tummy, I walk the halls feeling like people are watching me (even though I know they don't give a shit about me), and of course I feel like I'm already a little stressed about course loads even though I haven't really done anything other than look in one of the books.

I need to keep reminding myself that I'm doing this for ME. I'm not doing it for anyone else!! This is something that has interested me for a long time... from the days as a kid watching Fashion File and Jeanne Beker on Fashion Television.

The difference now, compared to when I went to University, is that I haven't been in school for 11 years. That's a LONG time in my eyes (mind you I know people that took longer but still) and I can already feel myself worrying about being bored, or being stressed, or ... or... or.... and I have to tell myself to just.... STOP!

Instead of stressing about the what may be and the what I've already done... I'm just not going to stress (yeah... right). Instead I will do what I can with the things I can mostly control.

1) Stop being lazy and get out of bed before 9 (seriously if I'm going to have to be moving by 6 most days I should just do it already). Just because your kids are starting to be independent enough that you can go back to be doesn't mean you should!!

2) Stop whining about the lack of time and just get things done! (No TV... except for Lucifer that is). There is a lot of time... it's just about this horrible adult word call PRIORITY. Le sigh!

3) College is not University, I am not 19 anymore, I don't need to prove myself to anyone! I have already had a few very successful positions, 2 awesome kids, an amazing husband, an awesome friend base and even cooler family... what do I need to prove??

4) DO NOT compare your art to another person's art. You are not that person, and they are not you!! This will only set you back. Your art is good... so stop being so damn hard on yourself! Why is every artist so self criticizing... you are allowed to like and even LOVE your artwork. Imperfections and all!

5) Artists can do Math. Mathematicians can do Art. It is a fallacy that you have to choose between art and science and maths and English.... you can do them ALL. You don't need to feel weird or ashamed that you like numbers as much as drawing!

So this is just a start... I will probably be revising my posting schedule come September. I'm not sure how yet, but I don't know if I'll be able to handle posting 5 days a week while working on projects and stuff. I'm not saying I can't, just saying I'm not sure yet and I will be assessing as I go!

Have you done something big that you needed to hype yourself up?? If so, what did you do to get through it??

Until next time.
Keep on, Geekin' on.
